The challenge

A club known for its sound needed assistive listening of the same standard, without the compromises of traditional systems.

Jassmine is known internationally for its intimate setting, its acoustics and its programming. The room was built around the music, with a premium installed sound system and space for up to 190 guests.

Traditional assistive listening often relies on a loudspeaker-and-microphone signal path. That path risks acoustic feedback and loses audio quality, which a venue this demanding about sound could not accept. The club wanted high-quality digital audio delivered directly to the devices its guests already wear.

The solution and products

Jassmine installed a Bettear CASTER to broadcast the club's mix as an Auracast™ stream, with Bettear RTX receivers available for guests.

  • Bettear CASTER. A professional Auracast™ transmitter that takes its feed from the club's sound system and broadcasts high-quality, low-latency audio across the room.
  • Bettear RTX. A handheld Auracast™ receiver, used with headphones or a neckloop, for guests whose own devices are not yet Auracast-ready.
  • Guests' own devices. Auracast-enabled hearing aids, cochlear implants and earbuds connect directly to the broadcast, with a compatible smartphone acting as Auracast Assistant.

The results

Guests with hearing loss now hear the performance the way the musicians intended, without any trade-off between accessibility and sound quality.

  • The mix, direct to the ear. Digital transmission delivers the club's mix to each listener's device without passing through the room's acoustics.
  • No acoustic feedback. Removing the loudspeaker-and-microphone path removes the source of feedback.
  • Access for every guest. Guests use their own Auracast™ devices, and RTX receivers cover everyone else.
  • Built for a premium room. The broadcast runs alongside the club's sound system without changing what other guests hear.

In their words

"When designing the system, we were looking for a solution that would help overcome some of the challenges associated with traditional assistive listening systems. Auracast provides high-quality digital audio transmission without relying on a conventional loudspeaker-and-microphone signal path, eliminating the problem of acoustic feedback."
