Tidemark Theatre, Campbell River, Canada

Tidemark Theatre now offers a hybrid Bettear Wi-Fi and Auracast™ assistive listening system, so patrons can listen through compatible hearing aids, cochlear implants, earbuds and headphones.
At a glance
- Venue: Tidemark Theatre
- Location: Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada
- Bettear products: B-SHOW Wi-Fi audio streamer and CASTER Auracast™ transmitter, in a hybrid assistive listening system
- Partners: Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility; Campbell River Hearing Clinic
- Funding: The Slaight Family Foundation's National Disability Initiative
The challenge

Patrons with hearing loss use many different devices, and no single assistive listening technology serves all of them.
The solution and products
The theatre installed a hybrid Bettear system that serves both technologies side by side.
- B-SHOW (Bettear Wi-Fi). Streams the show through the free Bettear app on a smartphone, to Bluetooth-enabled hearing devices and headphones.
- CASTER (Auracast™). Streams directly to Auracast-enabled hearing aids, with no app needed.
- Support before the show. Campbell River Hearing Clinic offers community members complimentary help connecting their devices before performances.
In their words
"The future of accessible listening isn't one technology, it's giving people options."
JoAnn Bentley, Director of Accessibility Services, Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility
"This system puts the sound of the show right in your hearing aids and almost any pair can use it."
Martin Jurek, Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner and co-owner, Campbell River Hearing Clinic
